Durham Tech is providing students with email accounts using Google Gmail as our primary means of communicaton to students. We'll refer to them as ConnectMail accounts at Durham Tech. The Gmail account will also include Google calendar.

How do I log In?

The URL for WebAdvisor is https://webadvisor.durhamtech.edu.
Click on the LOG IN button at the top of the screen.
Enter your User ID and temporay password (see below) and click on the SUBMIT button.
You must change your password the first time you log in. In the Old Password field type in the temporary password then type in your new password in both boxes and your password hint.

What is my User ID?

Student accounts on WebAdvisor follow this format:
Username = student’s last name, first initial, last 4 digits of student ID number
Initial Password = your six-digit birth date (MMDDYY)

Example:
username example

Your User ID is your last name followed by your first initial, followed by the last 4 digits of your Student ID number. For example, if your name is Miles Davis and your Student ID is 0081256, your User ID would be “davism1256.”  Make sure to use lower case when typing in your ID. Your ConnectMail (gmail) username is the same as your WebAdvisor User ID.

What is my password?

Your initial password is you 6-digit birth date (MMDDYY). If you were born on November 20, 1996, you would enter "112096."  Your ConnectMail (gmail) initial password is the same as your WebAdvisor initial password. You will be asked to select a new password but you may use the same password for WebAdvisor and ConnectMail if you wish.
What if my name is hyphenated?
Drop the hyphens or other punctuation when typing in the username. For example, if you name is John Smith-Davis, your username will be “smithdavisj1234.” If your name is John O’Brien, your username will be “obrienj1234.”

What if my last name is very long?

Use the first 19 characters of the last name. For example, if your name is John Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz, your username will be “abcdefghijklmnopqrsj1234.”

Are the username and password case sensitive?

The username is not case sensitive, but it will automatically be changed to lower case (no capitals.) The password is case sensitive and using a combination of upper and lower case creates a stronger password.

I forgot my password or How do I change my password?
Click on the "What's my password?" link found at the bottom of the main WebAdvisor screen or click on "Students" which will take you to a screen with links to retrieve your user ID, provide a hint, or reset your password.
How secure is my information?
Information is encrypted before it is transmitted over the Internet. You must provide a unique user name and password before any personal information is accessed. Data is encrypted before it is passed between the web server and the application server.
How do I print what's on my computer screen?
  • Click the Print icon on the Toolbar of your browser; or
  • Click "File," and then click "Print" in the drop-down menu. Then click OK in the displayed print dialog box; or
  • Click "File," and then click "Print Preview" and then click the "Print" button. You may also choose the page orientation (Landscape or Portrait) as well as the scale so that the data will fit on the page.

Web browser requirements
WebAdvisor is best viewed in Microsoft Internet Explorer, but it will operate effectively with current versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox browsers on the PC using Windows XP or greater.  On a Macintosh using OSX or greater, WebAdvisor will operate effectively with current versions of Safari and Firefox browsers. AOL and other portal browsers aren't compatible with WebAdvisor and may cause errors to occur.

Slow response time
There are a number of conditions that might affect your response time in WebAdvisor. An increase in the response time can be related to traffic over the communication lines.  Downloading large files will drastically increase response time for all other users on the system. Make your queries as specific as possible. Instead of looking for all classes in a subject, specifiying the day and/or time will reduce the response time.

Enable cookies
WebAdvisor puts a session cookie on your computer when you log into the system. The cookie is erased when you close your browser. Cookies must be enabled for WebAdvisor to function correctly. If you have selected a high security setting for you web browser, cookies may be turned off. Google provides instructions for enabling cookies in popular browsers.

Error message "Maximum number of cookie values has been reached." What does this mean?
This message is caused by a program bug within WebAdvisor.  Simply, Log out of WebAdvisor and Log In again.

This error may have been caused by opening four or more WebAdvisor hyperlink windows.  For example, if you opened one hyperlink window (to check a particular section) and the hyperlink led you to an additional window (to view the section information), then you may have received this message.  If several windows were opened in this manner, you may have triggered the error message.
